Softball walk-on tryouts set for September

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron softball program will hold walk-on tryouts for the 2015-16 season, Sept. 24 at 1:30 p.m. at Lee Jackson Field.
A mandatory informational meeting for those interested in walking on will take place Sept. 8 at 1:30 p.m. in the Stile Athletics Field House classroom.
To be eligible to tryout, each student must be enrolled fulltime at The University of Akron and cleared by the NCAA Initial Eligibility Center. Please bring proof of health insurance and a physical within the last year, along with the attached compliance review form to the Sept. 8th meeting.
Participants will need to bring appropriate workout clothing and equipment to tryouts on Sept. 24. Akron softball will provide bats and balls.
All players will be evaluated in the following areas: speed, fielding, throwing, hitting, short game (bunting and slapping), and physical condition.
Pitchers will be evaluated in the following areas: location, movement, velocity, and the ability to change speeds.
Catchers will be asked to throw from home to second and will also be evaluated on their ability to field bunts and throw to the different bases.
