Seiler Named MAC Pitcher of the Week for Fifth Time

CLEVELAND — Akron junior Erin Seiler (Bowling Green, Ohio) was named the Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week for the East Division for the fifth time this season, the league announced on Tuesday.
Last week, Seiler went a perfect 3-0 on the week for the Zips, including 2-0 in MAC road play.
In non-conference action against Cleveland State on April 28, Seiler set her personal record for wins in a season with 21 (21-16 overall), throwing a complete game. She struck out eight batters and walked two.
At Ohio on May 2, Seiler threw a complete game for her 22nd win on the season (22-16 overall, 8-9 MAC). She struck out 12 batters and walked one.
In the regular-season final on May 3, securing the Zips' MAC tourney appearance, Seiler earned her 23rd win on the season (23-16 overall, 9-9 MAC), hurling the first 5.0 innings. She struck out four batters and walked one.
On the week, Seiler went 3-0 in 19.0 innings of work. She struck out 24 and walked four while earning a 2.37 ERA.
Seiler owns the Akron school record for Ks in a season. She now has 301 strikeouts in 41 games. The previous season record was 219 strikeouts, which she set as a freshman in 2013.
On the season, Seiler is the Zips' top hurler with a 2.65 ERA and a 23-16 overall record. She's struck out a Conference-best 301 batters and walked 59 in 254.1 innings of action. In 38 starts on the mound, Seiler has 38 complete games and six shutouts.
Seiler is Akron's career strikeout leader. To date, the junior has 691 career strikeouts. The previous record was 575 by Tina McCauley (2001-05).
The MAC honor is the fifth for Seiler this season. She also was recognized on Feb. 17, March 17, April 14, and April 21. Third baseman Alyssa Nicholas was named MAC Player of the Week on March 10.
Seventh-seeded Akron softball opens play at the 2015 Mid-American Conference Championship on Wednesday, May 6, against No. 2 seed Ball State at 3:30 p.m. All games in the MAC's double elimination tournament will be played at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
