Akron Softball Sweeps Twinbill from Cleveland State

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron softball team closed out its home slate with two victories over Cleveland State in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at the Lee R. Jackson.
Akron claimed game one, 6-5, before shutting out CSU, 3-0 in the night cap.
The Zips improved to 22-24 overall (7-10 MAC), while the Vikings fell to 21-24 overall.
In the first game, UA scored three runs in the bottom of the first. Senior shortstop Chelsea Wildey (Oveido, Fla.) had an RBI single to centerfield, scoring freshman outfielder Taylor Kirian (New Riegel, Ohio), who walked. Senior outfielder Taryn Allmon (Grove City, Ohio) grounded out a sacrifice, scoring sophomore third baseman Alyssa Nicholas (Cortland, Ohio), who was hit by a pitch. Sophomore outfielder Savannah Fruin (Del Ray Beach, Fla.) singled to third base, scoring Wildey.
The Zips added a run in the third Wildey knocked a double to right field, scoring Nicholas.
Akron went ahead 6-0 in the fourth with two more runs as senior outfielder/RHP Sara Pearson (Somerville, Ohio) homered over the left center field fence.
Junior right-hander Erin Seiler (Bowling Green, Ohio) set her personal record for wins in a season with 21 (21-16 overall, 7-9 MAC), throwing a complete game. She struck out eight batters and walked two.
Overall, both teams registered seven hits and one error.
In the second game, Akron scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth as freshman third baseman Caitlin Gambone (Canton, Ohio) tripled to right, scoring Allmon and Nicholas.
The Zips added an insurance run in the fifth as senior second baseman Kellie Roudabush (Hilliard, Ohio) scored her final run at home.
Pearson threw a complete game for her first win on the season (1-5 overall). She struck out five and walked seven in her second career shutout.
Akron closes out regular-season play at Ohio on May 2-3.
