AKRON, Ohio – The Akron women's golf team, 24 days removed from its last tournament, will conclude the 2014-15 regular season this weekend at the 2015 Lady Buckeye Invitational on the par-72, 6,268-yard Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio.
The trip to the Lady Buckeye Invitational will be the first for Akron and will be one of the toughest fields the program has ever faced.
The Zips will face a 12-team field that features eight Golfstat Top-100 programs, including No. 38 Kent State, No. 41 Ohio State No. 58 Illinois, No. 60 Kansas State, No. 62 Michigan State, No. 80 Indiana, No. 81 Michigan and No. 95 Iowa. The rest of the field includes the Zips, Indianapolis, Maryland, and Toledo.
Play will begin at 8:30 a.m. ET on Saturday with a shotgun start for the first round. The second round will follow immediately following the conclusion of the first round. Sunday's final round will also begin at 8:30 a.m., with tee times from the first and tenth tees. Fans can follow all of the action live via Golfstat Live Scoring.
Unlike most tournaments, the Zips will have six players compete in each round, with the top-four scores counting towards the team score.
Akron is coming off an 11th-place finish at the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational on March 24. Laura Murray posted her best finish of the year, closing play in a tie for ninth place with a three-day score of 223 (+7). The top-10 finish came one week after she earned a tie for 10th place at the Rio Verde Invitational.
As a team, Akron posted a round of 302 (+14) on the final day, its second-lowest round of the spring schedule, to move up one spot into 11th place (922, +58).
