#13 Akron Rifle Team Travels to #9 Ohio State for NCAA Qualifier

AKRON, Ohio – The No. 13 University of Akron Rifle team will split to head south to compete in the two matches-- NCAA Qualifying meet and NRA Sectional match-- this weekend.
On Saturday, Feb. 21, the Akron Gold squad heads to Columbus, Ohio, to face-off against No. 9 Ohio State in the NCAA Qualifier meet. Action begins at 11 a.m. at the Hugh W. Wylie Range.
The Akron Blue squad will travel to Morgantown, W.Va., for the NRA Sectional meet. Action begins at 8 a.m. at the WVU Rifle Range.
The Zips and Buckeyes met earlier in the regular season. OSU bested Akron in the team competition with a score of 4,647 to 4,602. In the smallbore competition Junior Matt Chezem finished fourth with a score of 573, followed by freshman Julia Hatch (573). The Buckeyes took first place in the air rifle competition with a score of 2,344, while the Zips finished second with 2,319.
The Zips' score from the NCAA Qualifier match Saturday will be combined with their regular-season three-score average to make up their NCAA qualification score.
The 2015 NCAA Rifle Championships will be held in Fairbanks, Alaska, on March 13-14. The top eight qualification scores from around the country will qualify.
