Sanda Named Recipient of NCAA Elite 90 Men's Soccer Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - University of Akron men's soccer redshirt sophomore Tyler Sanda (North Royalton, Ohio) has been named the recipient of the NCAA Elite 90 award for the 2015 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship it was announced at the NCAA College Cup banquet on Thursday evening, Dec. 10.
In its seventh year, the award recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships.
Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above who have participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and a designated member of the squad size at the championship. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.
Sanda has appeared in 13 games for Akron this fall and has registered a pair of goals, while adding two assists. He maintains a 3.933 GPA majoring in biology.

Sanda and the Zips (18-3-2) return to action squaring off against Stanford (17-2-2) in the second semifinal of the NCAA College Cup at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan., on Friday, Dec. 11. Game time is set for approximately 8:36 p.m. ET or 45 minutes after the conclusion of the other national semifinal pitting Clemson against Syracuse.
