Akron Rifle Squares Off Against VMI

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron rifle team will go head-to-head with the Virginia Military Institute in its home opening match of the season on Saturday, Oct. 3, starting at 8 a.m.
Akron was originally scheduled to travel to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. to face off against Navy. However, the trip was cancelled for precautionary reasons due to a threat of inclement weather in the Maryland area.
The day will be broken down into three relay groups for the Smallbore competition and four relay groups for the Air Rifle competition. Relay one will shoot at 8 a.m. (both), relay two will shoot at 10:30 a.m. (both), relay three is set for 1 p.m. (both), and the final relay in the Air Rifle will be at 3:30 p.m.
Returning marksmen junior Zachary Strohl (Barto, Pa.) and sophomore Julia Hatch (Northfield, Vt.), along with freshman Caleb Lloyd (Seven Valleys, Pa.), lead the Zips.
The Zips will break into two sqauds for the match, UA Gold and UA Blue.
The Akron rifle team recently competed in the Tiger Open hosted by Memphis. The Zips posted a team score of 4,600. Llyod was the top shooter for Akron, earning the team's "Hotshot of the Week". The Tiger Open continues this weekend to determine the overall winner.
