POSTGAME NOTES
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio– The Akron Zips fell to Bowling Green, 59-10, in Mid-American Conference football action on Saturday afternoon at Doyt L. Perry Stadium.
The Falcons (5-2, 3-0) posted 31-unanswered second-half to remain undefeated in league play. With the loss, Akron moves 3-4 overall and 1-2 in MAC play .
The Zips out-rushed the Falcons, 167-120. However, the difference in the game came in the air as BGSU out-gained the Zips, 412-104. The Falcons racked up 532 total yards of offense.
In his fourth start of the season, Akron sophomore QB Thomas Woodson (Monroeville, Pa.) completed 13-of-28 passes for 91 yards and a touchdown.
Senior RB Conor Hundley (Hamilton, Ohio) was the top rusher with 15 carries for 69 yards. Sophomore WR Jerome Lane (Akron, Ohio) led all Zip receivers with four catches for 45 yards.
Defensively, senior LB Dylan Evans (Nazareth, Pa.) was the team leader with 11 tackles, while senior LB Jatavis Brown (Belle Glade, Fla.) had nine tackles and two sacks. Senior LB Darryl Monroe (Orlando, Fla.) also had nine tackles.
Bowling Green struck first after the Zips came up short on their opening drive. After a partially blocked punt placed the ball on Akron's 48-yard line, the Falcons used 1:49 to complete the six-play drive that ended with a two-yard run by Donovan Wilson to go up by seven.
The Zips responded with a 10-play, 52-yard scoring drive, starting at their own 48. Woodson hit junior WR Tyrell Goodman (Yonkers, N.Y.) on a slant route for a 14-yard touchdown. Goodman's first touchdown of the season knotted the game 7-7 with 1:52 remaining in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, BGSU traveled 85 yards up the field on back-to-back passing plays. The drive ended with a one-yard touchdown run by Donovan Wilson for a 14-7 advantage.
The following kickoff, the Falcons regained possession on the Zips' 12-yard line. And after one pass play to Lewis, the Falcons held a 21-7 advantage.
Akron scored again as senior PK Robert Stein (Cincinnati, Ohio) nailed a 46-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 21-10 with 10:19 remaining in the half.
Before the half ended, the Falcons orchestrated another scoring drive of seven plays and 89 yards that ended with a 13-yard TD pass to Tyler Tate, giving the Falcons a 28-10 halftime advantage.
After the break, BGSU tacked on 31 points. The Falcons added three additional touchdowns and a 28-yard field goal for the 59-10 victory.
Akron will enjoy a bye week before returning home on Saturday, Oct. 31, for its Hall-ROO-ween game against Central Michigan. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. ESPN3 will broadcast the game online.
Fans are encouraged to sport their Hall-ROO-ween costumes. All fans aged 10 and under will get FREE admission with a paying adult. Additional family members will be able to purchase $10 tickets.
The Zips' Athletics teams will provide a safe, in-stadium trick-or-treat for the children. There will also be a costume parade and contest for the little ones. All fans are invited to wear their Hall-ROO-ween costumes to the game. However, no masks or weapons will be allowed.
