Women's Golf Heads to Kentucky for 2014 Colonel Classic

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips women's golf team returns to action on Friday when it travels to Richmond, Ky., for the 2014 Colonel Classic at the par-72, 5,838-yard Arlington Golf Club.
Akron will face a 12-team field that includes Mid-American Conference foes Bowling Green and Ohio, as well as Bethel (Ind.), Cleveland State, Cumberlands, Eastern Kentucky (host), Marshall, Morehead State, Tennessee Tech, USC Upstate and No. 88 Xavier.
UA closed last year's edition of the Colonel Classic in seventh place, the squad's second top-10 finish in as many tries at the event (first, 2012). Then-senior Hanna Ek led the way for the Zips, finishing in a tie for 14th place.
Play is set to begin on Friday with the first round set for an 8:30 a.m. ET shotgun start. The second round will immediately follow the conclusion of the first round. The event will conclude on Saturday as the final round is set to begin at 8:15 a.m. Fans can follow the event live via Golfstat Live Scoring.
The Zips return to action following a 13th-place finish at the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational in 13th place on March 25.
The Zips closed out the event with a 54-hole total of 943 (+79).
Lina Bengtsson and Frida Fougberg led the way for the Zips, finishing in a tie for 39th place with identical three-round scores of 232 (+16).
