Rifle Places Ninth at GARC Championships

OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Akron rifle team placed ninth this past weekend at the Great American Rifle Conference Championships hosted by the University of Mississippi.
Sophomore Matt Chezem took top gun for the Zips in the air rifle division with a final tally of 587. Sophomore Tim Hopkins (577) and freshman Zachary Strohl (574) rounded out the top three for UA in air rifle.
Chezem also notched the high score in smallbore for the Akron marksmen with a total of 580 points. Hopkins (574) and John Hupp (570) followed Chezem in second and third for the Zips, respectively.
Overall, Akron accumulated a score of 2305 in air rifle and a 2285 in smallbore, good for a ninth-place score of 4590. West Virginia earned the top team score at the 2014 GARC Championships.
