CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Akron forward Rachel Tecca has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
This is the fifth time this season and the 11th time overall in her career that Tecca has earned the conference's weekly award.
Tecca recorded back-to-back double-doubles and shot 54.8 percent from the field to help Akron extend its winning streak to 12-straight games last week. The senior broke UA's single-season scoring record of 609 points, a mark she set last year in 33 games.
In a win over Miami (Ohio), Tecca scored 21 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, grabbed four steals and dished out three assists in 27 minutes on the court.
On the road at Kent State, Tecca led all scorers with 29 points and 13 rebounds. She scored 18 of her points in the second half, shooting 7-for-10 from the floor and 4-for-5 from the free throw line after halftime.
Tecca has posted 10 double-doubles this season and 37 for her career. She ranks 12th in the nation in total points this year, currently with 635.
Central Michigan's Crystal Bradford was named the league's Player of the Week for the West Division.
Akron returns to action on Wednesday, March 5 when it travels to Buffalo for its last road game of the regular season. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET at UB's Alumni Arena. The game will be televised live on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel. UA defeated Buffalo earlier this season, taking down the Bulls 101-92 on Feb. 2 at Rhodes Arena.
