Softball Announces 2015 Schedule

AKRON, Ohio — University of Akron softball coach Julie Jones and her staff announced the Zips' 2015 schedule on Thursday, featuring four tournaments, regional rivals, and five Mid-American Conference opponents at home.
UA opens the 2015 slate with four road tournaments. The Zips travel to Deland, Fla., for Stetson's Lead-Off Classic on Feb. 6-8 with games against Michigan State, Morehead State, Rhode Island, and host Stetson.
"We are looking forward to spending a few weekends in Florida in 2015 in hopes of finding good weather and good performances on the field," Jones said. "This year's schedule takes us to three new tournaments which will allow us to play competitive competition to start the season."
The Zips return to Florida for Jacksonville's Tournament on Feb. 13-15 where they'll face Syracuse, Bethune-Cookman, and host Jacksonville.
UA then travels to Nashville on Feb. 28 for Lipscomb's Music City Classic. The Zips play Drake, Dayton, and host Lipscomb.
For the second consecutive year, Akron travels to the Rebel Spring Games in Winter Haven, Fla., competing with 16 teams. UA opens play with Sacred Heart and St. Francis (Pa.) before facing Florida A&M, Presbyterian, Creighton, and Lehigh.
The Zips' last tourney action is set for the Mason Invitational on March 13-15 in Fairfax, Va. Akron entertains Wagner, Georgetown, and host George Mason.
On March 27, Akron opens MAC play with a double-header at Western Michigan before visiting Northern Illinois for two games.
The Zips' home opener is slated for March 31 with a non-conference doubleheader against St. Francis (Pa.). UA's first MAC opponents at Lee Jackson Field are Eastern Michigan (April 3) and Central Michigan (April 4-5).
UA hits the road for 12 straight games. The first stop is a doubleheader at Niagara (April 8), followed by a MAC doubleheader at Kent State (April 10). The Zips travel to Buffalo (April 11-12), Youngstown State (April 14), Toledo (April 17), and Bowling Green (April 18-19).
The team returns to Akron on April 22 for a doubleheader with Dayton on April 22. Miami comes to town for a MAC doubleheader on April 24, before the Zips entertain Ball State on April 25-26. UA closes out April with a non-conference doubleheader against Cleveland State on April 28.
Akron hosts Ohio in two MAC games on May 2-3 before participating in the 2015 MAC Tournament, to be held May 6- at Akron's Firestone Stadium.
NCAA Tournament action begins on May 14.
All home games are played at Lee Jackson Field on campus.
