CLEVELAND, Ohio – University of Akron shooting guard Hanna Luburgh has been selected as the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
This is Luburgh's fourth MAC Player of the Week honor of her career, and the second consecutive week the award has gone to an Akron player.
Luburgh was nearly unstoppable offensively last week for the Zips, reaching a career milestone in the process. In Akron's three games, she averaged 28.7 points per contest, including two 30-point games, and shot 50.0 percent from the field en route to surpassing 1,000 points for her career.
In UA's historic victory over Tennessee Tech, Luburgh led all scorers with 33 points and five 3-pointers in just 26 minutes of action.
The senior had her best game against nationally-ranked Dayton, when she posted a career-high 37 points to go with 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Luburgh's scoring mark was one point shy of tying the school record for a single game, and is the highest point total recorded by a MAC player so far this season.
Luburgh wrapped up the week with 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists against Wright State, reaching 1,000 points on a 3-pointer less than a minute into the second half.
The Zips (2-2) return to action on Friday, Nov. 22, when they travel to Canisius. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Koessler Athletic Center.
