AKRON, Ohio – One morning workout inside InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field was the order of the day for the Zips football team on Monday. The squad wore shells for the three-hour session.
First-year head coach Terry Bowden visited with GoZips.com to discuss the workout, which included some work on the team's two-minute drill.
The program will have its third two-a-day of preseason camp on Tuesday, with a morning and night session.
UA gets the season underway versus Central Florida on Thursday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. ET at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field. The opener will be carried by ESPN3.
Zips Notebook: The UA football staff was informed today that DE/LB Jamel Turner, who was added to the roster late last week, will be classified as a redshirt freshman and has four seasons of eligibility remaining ... it was previously thought he would have just two years left on his five-year NCAA eligibility clock ... former UA head coach Gerry Faust (1986-94), who currently resides in the Akron area and is an active supporter of Zips Athletics, visited today's practice ... at the end of the workout Pete Cuffaro, a longtime friend of head coach Terry Bowden, spoke to the team about maintaining a winning attitude ... Cuffaro uses a wheelchair due to paralysis suffered in a diving accident in 1983 ... UA Athletics will hold a Kickoff Luncheon on Aug. 24 and "Hoppy Hour", a pre-game professional networking event prior to the season opener on Aug. 30.
