Softball Goes 1-1 in First Day at Rebel Spring Games
March 09 | Softball
KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The University of Akron softball team split a pair of games on Friday in its first day of competition at the Rebel Spring Games. The Zips, who moved their overall record to 7-8, ran their win streak to four games with a 6-2 win over Penn before a 3-2 loss to Indiana State at Oren Brown Stadium.
Against Penn, UA jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and built a 5-0 cushion one inning later. Neither team posted another run until the top of the six when the Zips added an insurance score, before the Quakers tacked on two in the bottom of that frame to make the final margin.
Allison Dorr hit a two-run homer in the top of UA's three-run first and finished the game with two hits and two RBI. It was her second long ball of the season.
Versus Indiana State, the Zips evened the score at 2-all in the bottom of the fourth, but the Sycamores tallied one run in the top of the fifth and held on. In the fourth inning, UA's Iesha Mountain scored on a wild pitch with two outs.
Brittany Maurer was credited with both the win and the loss to bring her record in the circle to 7-7. She pitched 4.1 innings versus Penn and 7.0 against Indiana State. She also had two hits against ISU.
Akron faces Holy Cross (9 a.m.) and Yale (11 a.m.) on Saturday.
