Women's Basketball overpowers George Mason, 65-49, for fourth straight win

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Four of Akron's starters scored in double figures and Sina King picked up her fifth double-double of the year Wednesday night as the Zips defeated George Mason on the road 65-49.
UA (7-1) has now won four in a row after handing Mason (4-3) its first loss at the Patriot Center this season.
Rachel Tecca led the offensive charge for Akron with 24 points. The forward has scored 20 or more points six times this year, including each of the team's last four straight wins.
King produced 10 points down low and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds, and Taylor Ruper complemented her from the outside with nine of her 11 points coming from behind the arc. Ruper has totaled 202 3-pointers in her career.
Kacie Cassell was two assists shy of her own double-double, posting 13 points and eight assists.
Akron started off slow and fell behind by six early in the game. Tecca traded baskets with Mason's leading scorer and Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week Rahneeka Saunders giving Mason a 14-10 lead.
Tecca came back with a jump hook in the paint to get Akron started on a 10-0 run, capped off by a trey from Ruper to put the Zips up by six points with seven minutes left in the half.
Hanna Luburgh picked up her first two points of the night on an elbow jumper with 17 seconds remaining to push Akron's lead to nine before the break.
Mason cut the deficit to five at 14:29 in the second half but the Zips countered with five unanswered points to restore their 10-point cushion.
Akron continued to pull away and held its largest lead of 19 with 3:56 left in the game. The defense held Saunders to just four points in the second half after the Mason standout put up 16 in the first.
The Zips kick off a three game homestand Saturday, Dec. 8 when they host Wright State at 2 p.m. Wright State (2-4) is coming off a road loss at MAC East foe Miami on Tuesday.
