Women's Golf Finishes Fifth at MAC Preview

NASHPORT, Ohio – The University of Akron women's golf team concluded its fall schedule with a fifth-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Fall Preview on Monday.
The Zips held a one-shot lead after day one, but slipped to fifth place following a round of 320 (+32) to finish with a 36-hole total of 634 (+58). Ball State won the team title with an overall score of 621 (+45).
Redshirt senior Hanna Ek posted her first top-five finish of the season, concluding play in a tie for fifth place (153, +9). She carded a round of 82 (+10) on Tuesday.
Freshman and fellow Swede Frida Fougberg closed out the fall with the best result of her young career, finishing tied for eighth place (154, +10). She owned the top round on the day for the Zips with a score of 76 (+4).
Freshman Laura Murray and junior Sara Chaves each posted totals of 164 (+20) to finish tied for 46th place. Murray posted a round of 79 (+7) while Chaves finished with a score of 84 (+12) during the final round.
Whitney Graff rounded out the scoring five in a tie for 65th place (168, +24) after posting a final-round 83 (+11).
Freshman Sierra Everson, playing as an individual, earned her first top-25 finish, closing out play in a tie for 25th (160, +16).
The Zips will return to action on March 8, 2013, when they travel to Rio Verde, Ariz., for the Rio Verde Invitational.
