AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron softball team's fall schedule comes to a close this weekend with a single game against Detroit on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Lee R. Jackson Field.
Originally scheduled for 5 p.m., the start time has been moved up to 4:30 p.m.
UA has compiled a 4-3 record this fall, with wins over Gannon, Cleveland State, Notre Dame College and Dayton.
"The fall contests have allowed for a lot of healthy competition at multiple positions, which will make the team stronger and provide great depth for the season," head coach Julie Jones said of her team.
Entering the year, Akron welcomed seven newcomers including six freshmen, comprising one of the top recruiting classes in the history of the program.
The freshman pitching tandem of Erin Seiler and MacKenzie Conrad logged the most innings in the circle during fall play. Last year, the Keystone High School All-American Conrad was recognized as the MaxPreps National Softball Player of the Year and the Ohio Gatorade State Player of the Year.
Offensively, returners Alissa Birkhimer and Keelia Nester led the way at the plate both hitting just under .400.
UDM will be the last opponent the Zips will see before they officially begin the 2013 campaign on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Georgia Southern Tournament.
