Akron Rifle Falls at No. 3 West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The University of Akron rifle team kicked off the 2012 portion of its schedule with a 4691-4554 defeat at No. 3 West Virginia Saturday.
UA was led by Luke Nelson's seventh place finish in the smallbore. Nelson totaled a score of 570 in the event. Zachary Szabo finshed ninth and freshman John Hupp took 10th for the Zips, each shooting a 569.
Sarah Benjamin was Akron's top finisher in the air rifle, taking eighth with a score of 578. Nelson was ninth with a tally of 576, while Jenna Compton took 11th with a matching score of 576.
The Zips are in action next Saturday (Jan. 21) when they travel to Virginia Military Institute.
