Women's Golf Battles Cold Weather and Wind in Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Cold weather, overcast skies and winds upwards of 30 mph was the story of the day as The University of Akron women's golf team closed day one of the Betty Lou Evans Invitational on Friday in 13th place.
Sixty-seven of 90 players failed to break 80 as poor conditions and a long course pushed the round's scoring average to 82.56. The Zips closed the day with a score of 327 (+39), but are just seven strokes out of the top five.
Playing in her first collegiate tournament, freshman Laura Murray led the way for Akron, posting a round of 7-over 79 to finish in an eight-way tie for 15th place. Sophomore Whitney Graff closed out the day tied for 29th place after carding an 81 (+9).
Senior Kristen Hill saw her streak of 30-consecutive rounds in the 70s come to an end following her 10-over 82. She enters day to in a 42nd-place tie. Freshman Sara Johansson and sophomore Sara Chaves each finished the round with identical scores of 85 (+13) and in a tie for 66th place.
Play will continue on Saturday with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET from the No. 1 and No. 10 tees. Fans can follow all of the action live via Golfstat Live Scoring.
