Zippy's Top 10 Countdown: No. 10

For the next two weeks, I will be counting down the top 10 UA accomplishments of the 2010-11 season that was one of the greatest in school history.
Coming in at No. 10 in my "Year in Roo-View Countdown" is Akron softball player Alex Feltes making the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team!
Just the fifth Academic All-American in program history and the first since 1988, the Rocky River, Ohio, native recently graduated from UA with a 3.8 GPA and a degree in Mathematics.
Her performance on the field stood out as well, as she earned Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region honors after turning in a stellar season as the Zips' leadoff hitter and defensive rock at third base.
In her senior campaign, she hit a career-high .414 at the plate, the fourth-best season average in program history. Her 60 hits, 35 runs, 27 RBI, and eight home runs were all career highs. She also led the team with a .690 slugging percentage, 10 doubles, three triples, 100 total bases and a .488 on-base percentage.
Leaving her mark on the program, Alex started her entire career at the hot corner for a stretch of 219 consecutive games. What a streak! In Akron's career record book, she ranks fourth in both games played and hits, and stands in the top 10 in at-bats, batting average, doubles and assists. She also owns UA's single-game total bases record with 13 at Toledo on May 6, 2011, hammering two homers, a triple and a double, coming up just a base hit short of the cycle.
After an amazing senior year and one of the best careers in Akron softball history, I will miss watching her gun out runners at first base and drive doubles into the gap. She really helped make 2010-11 a special season for the Blue and Gold. Congratulations to Alex on a tremendous career as a Zip!
