Softball Heads to Dayton for Final Midweek Action
April 25 | Softball
- Fresh off a sweep of Central Michigan in its last home games of the season, The University of Akron softball team will travel to Dayton for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 26 for the final nonconference games of the year. The Zips (20-20, 4-9 MAC) are looking to continue their momentum into the weekend as they make a push for the MAC Tournament.
Last season, the Flyers (18-23, 10-7 A-10) took two from Akron at Lee Jackson Field, winning game one 10-2 in five innings and escaping with a 4-3 victory in the finale. This year, UD has won five of its last six games and is coming off a split at A-10 foe Fordham. Dayton was scheduled to play a doubleheader with MAC team Miami on Monday before taking on the Zips, but rain forced the cancellation of those games.
Akron went 2-1 over the weekend, falling to Eastern Michigan 6-4 on Friday and bouncing back to sweep Central Michigan in a Saturday doubleheader behind five home runs by five different players. The Zips came back from an 8-4 deficit to win game one 11-8 and hung on for an 8-7 win after a late Chippewa rally to finish the sweep in game two.
UA is hitting .288 as a team and is slugging .440 with 35 home runs on the season. Senior third baseman Alex Feltes leads the squad with a .397 average and 48 hits, while classmate Olivia Hegedus has belted a MAC-best 13 home runs and leads the team with a .694 slugging percentage.
Dayton is hitting .260 and slugging .416 with 40 home runs on the year. Lauren Nacke leads the Flyers with a .391 average and 15 homers while slugging .817. They currently sit in sixth place in the Atlantic 10.
First pitch is set for 3 p.m. ET on Tuesday at UD Softball Stadium with game two to follow immediately afterwards. Live stats will be available on GoZips.com.
