Women's Golf to Open Spring in South Carolina

The University of Akron women's golf team opens the spring portion of its 2010-11 schedule on Feb. 20 at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic in Kiawah Island, S.C.
The three-day event will feature one round each day on the Cougar Point and Oak Point Golf Courses. This is the second-consecutive season the Zips have competed in the event. Last year, the Akron finished in 18th place (33 teams).
The event is the largest women's collegiate golf tournament in the country and will see 33 teams face off in this year's edition. The Zips will face squads from: Arkansas State, Bucknell, Campbell, Central Arkansas, Charleston Southern, The Citadel, College of Charleston, Daytona State College, Drake, Elon, Faulkner, Florida International, Houston Baptist, Iowa, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, James Madison, Longwood, Miami (Fla.), Middle Tennessee State, Nebraska, Newberry, Old Dominion, Oral Roberts, Presbyterian, Richmond, USC Upstate, Western Carolina, Wichita State, William & Mary, Winthrop and Wofford.
Akron enters the spring following a second-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Preview on Oct. 19 to close out the fall slate. The Zips ended the day with a two-round total of 632 (309-323) to finish eight shots back of tournament-winner Western Michigan (308-316=624).
Hanna Ek earned her first medalist finish at Akron after posting a two-round tally of 149 (71-78). She finished two strokes ahead of second place.
Play is set to begin with tee times starting at 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday and Monday, with a shotgun start scheduled for 8:45 a.m. ET on Tuesday. Golfstat live scoring will be available at GoZips.com.
