BUFFALO, N.Y. – Branden Oliver rushed for 235 yards and two touchdowns to help Buffalo to a 51-10 win over Akron in Mid-American Conference football action on a windy Saturday afternoon at UB Stadium.
Akron (1-10, 0-7 MAC) got on the scoreboard thanks to a 36-yard field goal by A.J. Fox with 5:52 remaining in the first quarter and then back-up quarterback Patrick Nicely connected with Marquelo Suel on a 64-yard touchdown pass with 12:05 remaining in the contest. That was the Zips' longest pass play of the season.
Fox's field goal made the score 14-3 in favor of Buffalo (3-8, 2-5 MAC) and two series later Nico Caponi recovered a fumbled punt return on the UB 22 yardline. Starting quarterback Clayton Moore led the offense to the 10, but his pass on third down and eight was intercepted by Najja Johnson and the Bulls went on to score 30 unanswered points.
Moore finished 11-for-23 passing for 76 yards and had the one turnover, while Nicely completed 6-of-12 passes for 95 yards to go with the one TD strike. Moore was sacked three times.
