PALMYRA, Pa. – The University of Akron rifle team scored a 4551-4276 victory over Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference opponent Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday at the 12th-Annual Palmyra (Pa.) Invitational, which was hosted by the Palmyra Sportsmen's Association. The Zips topped the Leopards in smallbore, 2250-2129, as well as in air rifle, 2301-2147. Akron's final ranking in the event will be released later this week, once all scoring has been tabulated.

Benjamin was following in smallbore by junior Ryan Stein (565) and sophomore David Brummond (564). Freshman Chelsey Frink placed second in air rifle, posting a 578, ahead of of Brittany Jones's 575.
"We are getting closer," Akron head coach Newt Engle said. "The team is working very hard on smallbore and the scores are creeping into the upper 560s, closer and closer to the 570s where we need to be."
In all, Akron tallied the top-16 places in air rifle and the top-13 finishes in smallbore.
The Zips' next competition date comes at home on Feb. 5, when they play host to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at Schrank Hall South Marksmanship Training Facility on the UA campus. The next day, UA will travel to Ohio State.
