Softball Drops Two Against Ball State Cardinals

Muncie, Ind. - The University of Akron softball team dropped two against Ball State Friday afternoon at the Ball State Softball Complex.
After falling 7-0 in the first contest, the second game proved to be much more of a battle as it was scoreless until the fifth inning when Ball State grabbed three runs off a solo home run and three additional hits. In the loss, junior Heather Bauer pitched her tenth complete game of the season striking out five giving up seven hits.
In the second inning of the first game, two doubles would score Ball State's first run (0-1) and the Cardinals would add three more in the third off of five hits for the 4-0 lead. With two outs on the board in the fourth, Ball State added another off a triple which scored on a Zip throwing error (0-5) and runs six and seven off a double, single and Akron error (0-7).
Akron's lone hit in the game came from sophomore Crystal Hernandez who grabbed a single in the second inning.
Two freshmen saw career first's on the day with Mary Hyland getting her first at bats while Caitlin Ambrose picked up her first start at shortstop. The Zips now move to 20-32 on the year and 7-13 in Mid-American Conference play.
Akron will return to league action on Saturday facing Miami for a 6:00 p.m. contest followed by a 1:00 p.m. regular season finale on Sunday. Live scoring will be available here.
