Feltes & Helfrich Named To CoSIDA/ESPN Academic Team

AKRON, Ohio - The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) recently announced that junior third baseman Alex Feltes and sophomore outfielder Alex Helfrich have been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District IV Second Team as voted upon by its members. Both receiving the honor for the first time, this is the second consecutive season Akron has placed a student-athlete on the list.
Feltes earned the honor after posting a 3.88 grade point average in the classroom and a .383 batting average on the field. Majoring in mathematics, Feltes has started every game this season at third base and has maintained one of the top-10 batting averages in the league. At the top of the list for UA since the season started, Feltes has 54 hits, including 12 doubles, and has scored 32 runs. Likewise she has posted 14 sacrifice hits and 14 stolen bases.
Helfrich started the season has a pinch runner but quickly made her way into the lineup. Starting the past 30 games in the outfield, Helfrich has a .284 batting average and has grabbed 25 hits scoring 19 runs. Second on the team in stolen bases, Helfrich has 19 thus far. Also stellar on the field, Helfrich has maintained a flawless fielding percentage. Majoring in middle level education, Helfrich has held a 4.00 GPA since she came to school.
The Zips wrap up the regular season this weekend facing Ball State and Miami. UA will take on the Cardinals in a doubleheader on Friday followed by a single game against the RedHawks on Saturday and Sunday.
