May 07 | Baseball
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced that senior shortstop Kevin Haas has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District IV Honor Roll as voted upon by its members.
Haas who also received the distinction last season becomes the first Zip in program history to receive the honor in back-to-back seasons. The tri-captain boasts a 3.63 GPA in Marketing Management in addition to his impressive baseball resume. On the year, Haas leads the team in doubles (12) and is tied for the lead in walks (20) while ranking second on the team in hits (69) and runs scored (46). The senior shortstop is one hit shy of tying the UA career-hit record and a double short from eclipsing his career-high mark.
Haas earned one of 13 available spots on the team and was also one of four Mid-American Conference players selected, joining Eastern Michigan pitcher Corey Chaffins, Kent State infielder Kyle McMillen and Bowling Green outfielder T.J. Blanton.
The CoSIDA ESPN Academic All-District Team honors athletes who boast a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale) in undergraduate or graduate studies. Additionally, nominees must have played in at least 50 percent of the team's games, reached sophomore athletic and academic standing, and completed at least one academic year at their institution.
Akron embarks on its final MAC road series tomorrow (May 7), taking on the Bowling Green Falcons at 3:00 p.m. at Steller Field.
