Softball Drops Twinbill Against Dayton

Ohio - The University of Akron softball team dropped a
twinbill Tuesday afternoon by scores of 10-2 and 4-3 to the Dayton
Flyers at Lee R. Jackson Field.
In the first contest, Akron scored initially on the day after senior Krista Hansen reached on a line drive to center field. An attempt to get out the lead off batter out when junior Alex Feltes bunted failed and both remained safe advancing on a bunt from freshman Alissa Birkhimer. Junior Heather Bauer would foul out to third base and with no one to cover home, Hansen scored from third for the quick 1-0 lead.
Dayton broke it open in the fourth inning when the Flyers scored four runs on three hits. A double and an error put two on and a single tied the game at one and a follow up three run home run put UD up 4-1. The Flyers added six additional runs in the fifth inning off four hits including a three run home run to go up 10-1.
Akron's final run came in the bottom of the fifth inning after Hansen reached on a walk advancing to second on a steal. She reached third on a passed ball and scored after Feltes struck out and a dropped strike allowed her to cross the plate (2-10).
The second game was a different affair as prior to the Zips first out, Akron scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning beginning when Hansen and Feltes led off with base hits. A double down the right field line from Birkhimer put UA up 2-0 and she would advance to third on the throw scoring off a ground out from sophomore Allison Dorr for the 3-0 lead.
Slowly the Flyers would tie the contest scoring a run in the second, third and fifth innings. Tied 3-3 headed to the seventh, Dayton took the 4-3 lead starting when a runner reached second on a double scoring off a line drive single to center field.
Hansen went 3-for-5 on the day scoring three runs.
Akron will return to
the field this weekend traveling to Central Michigan and Eastern
Michigan for a two-game series against each.
