Arney Garners MAC Pitcher of the Week Honors

AKRON, Ohio - After a stellar performance at the College of Charleston Cougar Classic, sophomore Andrea Arney (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton) has been named the Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week for the period ending Feb. 21 as announced by the league office Tuesday.
Earning the honor for the second time in her career, Arney led UA in the circle going 2-1 in 22.0 innings pitched. Giving up just three earned runs while striking out 21, Arney opened up the season with a .95 ERA.
Arney's first win of the year was a 4-3 extra inning season-opening victory against James Madison (Feb. 19) where she struck out seven allowing only one earned run. She followed it up with a 6-1 win over Wagner (Feb. 20) where again she only allowed one earned run while striking out nine.
Arney's only loss came against No. 15 Louisville where she gave up just one run while striking out five in her third complete game of the weekend.
Combined the Zips pitching squad surrendered just six earned runs in 36.0 innings pitched holding a 1.17 ERA which is the lowest in the league.
The Zips went 3-2 at the event and will take this weekend off before resuming play at the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic (March 5-7) where the Zips will face UNC Greensboro, Western Kentucky, Liberty, North Florida and Kennesaw State.
