Football Shut Out at Temple, 30-0
October 30 | Football
PHILADELPHIA - The University of Akron football team lost 30-0 to Temple on Saturday in Mid-American Conference action at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Owls (7-2, 4-1) blocked a 42-yard field goal attempt by Igor Iveljic with 30 seconds left in the first half, and held to a 6-0 lead at the break thanks to two Brandon McManus' field goals.
Iveljic's scoring try was sparked by a Temple turnover. Shawn Lemon tallied his team-leading seventh sack of the season and caused Owls' quarterback Mike Gerardi to fumble. Lemon also recovered the loose ball at the TU 32 yard line. Akron moved the ball as far as the 25 and in a fourth and three situation sent in Iveljic, but Kee-ayre Griffin deflected the kick.
Temple quickly extended its lead early in the second half when
Alex Jackson caught a 10-yard pass from Gerardi to make it 13-0
with 11:44 remaining in the third quarter. The Owls found the end
zone twice in the fourth quarter. Wide receiver Rod Streater scored
on a 24-yard reverse, and Bernard Pierce ran in from 8 yards out.
Girardi completed 15-of-22 passes for 209 yards.
Akron quarterback Patrick
Nicely completed 15-of-26 passes for 134 yards, had one
interception and was sacked four times. Brian
Wagner led the UA defense with a game-high 10 tackles.
The Zips (0-9, 0-5) travel to Muncie, Ind., on Nov. 6 for a league matchup with Ball State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
