Inaugural Women's Golf Schedule Released

A challenging lineup that spans nine states, 11 regular-season
tournaments and the first ever Zippy Invitational are some of the
highlights featured in the inaugural 2008-09 University of Akron
women's golf schedule, which was announced by first-year head coach
Jenny King Wednesday.
"Our schedule will be tough in many ways," King said. "But by
providing the team with highly competitive tournament fields at
great venues, we will only be preparing ourselves the best way we
can for the Mid-American Conference Championship at the end of
April."
The inaugural Zippy Invitational, UA's first and only home event,
will be held at the Rosemont Country Club in Fairlawn, Ohio from
Sept. 29-30. The 13-team tournament field will feature players from
league members Ohio University, Ball State, Eastern Michigan,
Toledo and Bowling Green as well as from in-state institutions such
as Cleveland State, Youngstown State and Ashland University. The
invite will be played as a 36/18 competition at about 6,100
yards.
"The response for our first home tournament has been well received
and many of the MAC teams are coming to support a new program in
their conference," King said. "I really believe that the event will
be an annual scheduled stop for the teams in the MAC and possible
attract schools that are highly ranked in the nation."
The Zippy Invite is one of five tournaments scheduled for the fall
with the Zips hitting the links for the first time at the Great
Smokies Intercollegiate tournament from Sept. 15-16 at the
Waynesvile Country Club in Waynesville, N.C.
The spring docket gets underway on Feb. 21 in the four-day,
Morehead State Eagle Invitational at the Victoria Lakes Golf Club
in Oxnard, Calif. and will conclude in early April at the Eastern
Kentucky Lady Colonel Classic. The MAC Championships will be held
at Longaberger Gold Club in Nashport, Ohio from Apr. 24-26.
