Rosemont Country Club Named Home Course for Zips
April 07 | Women's Golf
-Head women's golf coach Jenny
King, recently announced Rosemont Country Club located in
Fairlawn, Ohio will serve as the home course for the inaugural 2008
season of the University of Akron women's golf team.
"Rosemont Country Club is going to be a great home for our newly
founded team," coach King said. "The facilities and the course
itself are going to play a big part in our overall development and
improvement as a team. The practice facilities will be a great
place for the team to work on their short games and scoring clubs
and the course will provide them ample opportunities to work on
course management skills."
A golfer's dream to play the course has five par three's and is
very tight and short with tree lined fairways and challenging
terrain. The par-71, 6,400-yard course boasts a new driving range,
a practice bunker area and superb chipping, putting and target
greens. Outside the golf amenities the club, serving northeast Ohio
since 1920, also has a clubhouse, swimming pool, tennis courts and
a golf-learning center on site.
"Allowing the team use this club as their home site is great not
only for the team but for the course as well," head golf
professional Joe Vojtko said. "It gives great publicity to the
course and is a great playing surface for the women to showcase
their talents."
"The staff at Rosemont Country Club has welcomed us with open
arms," coach King said. "I would like to thank them for all of
their support and the opportunity that they have given us. I know
that the teams we are hosting will enjoy the course and the great
hospitality that I've experienced with the Rosemont staff."
Akron will host its first ever home tournament - The Zippy
Invitational - September 29-30, 2008. More information to follow as
the tournament nears.
The course is also home to Copley high school as well as being the
headquarters for high school districts.
