Zips Continue Conference Play in Michigan

Akron, Ohio-The University of Akron softball team will continue Mid-American Conference play this weekend up north with a doubleheader against Eastern Michigan on Friday at 1:00 p.m. followed by single games against Central Michigan on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
The Zips will face the EMU Eagles first who are 9-22 overall and
1-5 in the MAC. The 2007 Tournament Champions most recently took on
the No. 6 ranked University of Michigan Wolverines falling 11-0 in
five innings (April 16) at Alumni Field. In their last Mid-American
Conference game, they split a two-game weekend series to the
University of Toledo winning the first 11-1 (April 12) but dropping
the second 5-3 (April 13).
Before hosting the Zips on Saturday, CMU will welcome Ohio
University for a doubleheader on Friday. The Chippewas, who went
2-2 last week, fell as well to No. 6-ranked Michigan in a 4-3 loss.
In league play they swept Toledo on April 11 by scores of 8-6 and
16-11 concluding the week with a 7-6 loss to Bowling Green in eight
innings on Saturday. Most recently Central Michigan held on for a
3-2 win over visiting Michigan State on April 16 at home. As of
this release CMU leads the MAC West Division with a league record
of 7-2 going 16-13 overall.
The Zips' are coming off a road trip to Athens, Ohio where they
took on the Ohio Bobcats in a game apiece Saturday and Sunday. In
the first contest the Zips headed into the fourth inning with the
2-1 lead but OU scored four runs in the bottom of the inning,
adding one more in the fifth to beat UA 6-2.
On Sunday the game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Bobcats put the first two runs on the board. The Zips would produce one run in the fifth inning but headed into the seventh down 5-1. The Zips loaded the bases in the inning but were only able to produce two runs falling 5-3.
