Swierz Named MAC East Pitcher of the Week

Swierz was named the Mid-American Conference East Division
Pitcher of the Week Tuesday, the league office announced.
This is the first honor of its kind for Swierz as an Akron Zip, who
is a fourth year transfer after playing three years at Cleveland
State University. A native of the area hailing from Amherst, Ohio,
Swierz went 2-2 this past weekend in the College of Charleston
Invitational.
On Friday against Marist College, Swierz pitched all seven innings
giving up only three hits while striking out twelve batters. In her
second victory against Howard University, she pitched another
complete game giving up five hits and striking out six. Both wins
resulted in a 2-1 score.
In the last game of the weekend the senior pitcher lost a tough one to East Tennessee State giving up one run in the eighth after pitching seven plus innings of scoreless softball.
On the year, Swierz is the Zips leading pitcher holding all
three of UA's wins this season. She leads the team in strikeouts
with 32 in 43.2 innings pitched.
The Zips will continue play this weekend as they head to Atlanta,
Ga. to take part in the Buzz Classic.
