Zips Travel to Charleston Invitational

Akron, Ohio-Coming off a tough weekend at the
UT Chattanooga Challenge the University of Akron softball team is
back in action this week as they travel to Charleston, S.C. for a
five game series in the College of Charleston Invitational.
Play will begin on Friday for the Zips with a noontime game against
the University of North Carolina Wilmington followed by an 8:00
p.m. contest versus Marist College. On Saturday UA will play
tournament host, the College of Charleston, at 4:00 p.m. with a
game against Howard University directly after at 6:00 p.m. Play in
the invitational will conclude Sunday at noon with a final contest
against East Tennessee State.
Heading into the weekend junior Lisa
McLean leads the team in batting average hitting .448 with 13
hits. She also leads the team in stolen bases with six on eight
attempts.
Senior first baseman Katrina Moffett leads the Zips in putouts
with 73 and freshman Alex Feltes is the team leader in the
assists category with 26 on the season.
Freshman pitcher Brittany Clarke got two starts last weekend
logging 17.0 innings with 12 strikeouts.
Head coach Julie Jones' squad will spend the next four
weekends of the season on the road before opening day at Lee
Jackson Field on March 26 with a game against Youngstown State
University at 3:00 p.m.
