Softball Drops Two Against Lipscomb and Iowa State
February 24 | Softball
Chattanooga, Tenn.-The University of Akron
softball team dropped two on Saturday losing 7-1 against Lipscomb
University and 6-3 versus Iowa State in the second day of the
Chattanooga Challenge hosted by the University of Tennessee at
Chattanooga.
In the first game against Lipscomb, freshman Brittany Clarke got her first collegiate start
for the Zips, however, the Lady Bisons bats were too hot for UA as
they scored one in the bottom of the first, three in the third, one
in the fifth and two in the sixth.
The Zips only run came in the fifth inning after junior Cali Stratton singled and was driven in by senior
Katrina Moffett's double.
In the second contest against Big-12 powerhouse Iowa State, the
Zips scored two runs in the bottom of the first after lead off
batter junior Lisa McLean tripled. Freshman Sarah Earley followed with a single and a quick
steal of second base. Both advanced on a wild pitch bringing McLean
home. Stratton's sacrifice hit to the shortstop drove Earley
home.
The game remained 2-0 until the fourth inning when Iowa State
scored five runs adding one in the fifth. Clarke came in as the
relief pitcher for UA in the fifth striking out six batters.
The Zips play their final game of the tournament tomorrow against
host school UT Chattanooga. Game time is set for 2:15 p.m. EST.
