Final Rubber Bowl Homecoming Activities

AKRON - There are a
number of activities planned for the final Homecoming (and final UA
Saturday game) played at the Rubber Bowl Oct. 11 when the Zips host
Bowling Green in a key MAC East meeting (kickoff is set for 6
pm).
The Homecoming festivities begin Thursday on campus with a Homecoming Spirit Walk, starting at 7 pm at E.J. Thomas, going through the new green space that is Buchtel Mall and ending at Coleman Commons. Head coach J.D. Brookhart will speak at Buchtel Hall at approximately 7:45 pm.

On Saturday, the Department of Athletics will host a Festival from 3:30-5:30 in the general parking lot adjacent to Derby Downs. (Note: the Faith & Family Day also planned for Saturday prior to the game has been canceled due to circumstances beyond the department's control.) The picnic portion of the Festival is SOLD OUT (with lunch being provided by the Winking Lizard), but the rest of the activities will be available for all. There will be live music by "Cleveland's Breakfast Club," inflatables and games for kids, face painters and balloon artist and a second Bud Light beer garden.
Also on Saturday, the men's and women's basketball teams will be on hand for a "Meet the Team" session from 4:30-5:30 in the same general area as the Festival, where fans can interact with and get autographs of the 2008-09 Akron Zips.
On Friday and Saturday, the Z-Fund will host functions for the football alumni. Friday night will be a gathering at Scorchers in the Valley and Saturday night will be a gathering at the Ohio Brewing Company in downtown. There will also be a tent on Saturday from 3:30-5:30 for football alumni in the general area of the festival. For more information, call the Z-Fund at 330-972-FUND.
