Akron Finishes Season with 2-0 Loss to CMU
May 06 | Softball
AKRON, Ohio The University of Akron softball team closed
out its 2007 season with a 2-0 loss to Central Michigan (24-19,
11-7 MAC) on Sunday afternoon at Lee Jackson Softball Field.
The Zips finish the year at 17-25 overall, 7-11 in Mid-American
Conference play.
Sophomore pitcher Julie Boyes (Uniontown, Ohio/Lake) had a solid
outing for the Zips but the Chippewas took advantage of three hits
and an Akron error to score both of their runs in the fifth inning.
Boyes (3-5) went seven innings, allowing six hits and striking out
four.
Getting a second chance after a dropped foul ball, CMU's Jill
Schulz singled down the third base line. A one-out hit and stolen
base from Tracy Kaatz put runners at second and third, with
Christina Novak's sacrifice fly scoring the first run. Amy Hudson's
RBI single to short gave the Chippewas a 2-0 lead.
The Zips managed just two hits on the afternoon with a single from
Carrese Moody (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) in
the first inning and Cali Stratton's (Liberty, Mo./Liberty)
double in the seventh. Akron struggled at the plate all weekend,
amassing just 10 hits over four games while being outscored
23-0.
