Spirtos Named To Academic All-MAC Team

Spirtos (Medina, Ohio/Highland) was named to the Academic
All-MAC team as voted on by the league's faculty athletic
representatives, the league office announced today.
Due to ties in the voting the squad was expanded to 18. The number
of honorees on the Academic All-MAC team are the number that is set
for the specific sport or 33 percent of the nominees, whichever is
greater. To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a
3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of
the contests.
Spirtos closed out her four-year career by starting all 42 games
behind the plate this season. She finished with a career-best .256
batting average, tallying 31 hits. Her 13 RBI was tied for third on
the team and she led the squad with eight doubles. Her two home
runs ranked second. In four seasons at Akron Spirtos appeared in
196 games, making 191 starts.
Off the diamond, Spirtos is a fashion merchandising major with a
3.72 GPA. The Zips finished the season with a 17-25 record, 7-11
MAC.
