Rifle Lands Five On All-Conference Team

AKRON,
Ohio. - The University of Akron rifle team placed three
members on the All-Mid-Atlantic Conference smallbore team and a
pair on the air rifle team Friday, Akron head coach Newt
Engle announced. Sophomore Melissa Lussier (Clinton,
Conn./Middletown) headlined the list by being named to both.
Joining Lussier on the smallbore team was fellow sophomore Julie DeBrita (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia Glenville) and junior Megan Reinking (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran). Freshman Marybeth Brewer (Royal Oak, Mich./Berkley) also earned all-conference air rifle honors.
"The MAC is a very competitive conference and making the
all-conference team is a great accomplishment," Engle
said.
The Zips, who won their third consecutive Western Intercollegiate
Rifle Conference championship on Feb. 24, will compete in the MAC
championships Saturday. Akron, which is a member in both elite
rifle conferences, finished second behind the U.S. Naval Academy at
the MAC championships last season.
