Rifle To Close Out Home Schedule Against VMI

The University of Akron rifle team will wrap up its home
schedule Saturday when it hosts the Virginia Military Institute
starting at 9 a.m. at Schrank Hall South, Rm. 7.
The Zips (7-2) have dropped their last two matches after starting
the season with seven straight victories. UA is 4-2 on the road
this season after defeats at West Virginia last weekend and at the
Palmyra Rifle Tournament against Navy the week before.
Freshman Marybeth
Brewer (Royal Oak, Mich./Berkley) broke a tiebreaker with
sophomore Michael
Tokarz (Lewisburg, W. Va./Greenbrier East) after the teammates
fired like 573's out of a possible 600 to claim third place in the
air rifle against the Mountaineers. Junior Stephanie
Elmore (Salem, Ore./Blanchet) paced the Zips in the smallbore
by shooting a 564 on the Blue team; the third highest score of the
match.
VMI is coming off a tri-match victory in Charleston, S.C., where it
defeated The Citadel and Air Force Academy.
Following this weekend's events, Akron will prepare for the NCAA
qualifier at Ohio State University on February 10.
