Football Falls At Central Michigan, 24-21

After a scoreless first quarter, the Chippewas (1-2, 1-0 Mid-American) ran out to a 14-0 lead as quarterback Dan LeFevour connected with Justin Gardner for a 2-yard touchdown pass and then Gordy intercepted a pass from Akron quarterback Luke Getsy in the end zone and raced the other way for the score with 4 seconds left in the first half.
Victor Doman ran 3 yards for his first career touchdown on his first career carry to put Central Michigan ahead 21-0.
Akron (1-2, 0-1) quickly cut the Chippewas' lead to 21-13 as it scored on two of its next three possessions. Getsy capped a 95-yard drive by connecting with Jabari Arthur for a 16-yard touchdown, then found David Harvey for a 9-yard score.
Arthur finished with 137 yards receiving while Harvey added 133.
The Chippewas put together a 71-yard drive that burned 5:52 off the clock in the fourth quarter and ended when Rick Albreski kicked a 28-yard field goal for a 24-13 lead.
Akron made one last attempt at a comeback when it scored with 11 seconds left in the game as Getsy connected with Harvey on a 14-yard score and then Getsy ran in the two-point conversion. But the Zips were not able to recover the ensuing onside kick.
LeFevour finished with 162 yards passing and also led all rushers with 67 yards on 10 carries. Bryan Anderson finished with 95 yards receiving on seven catches for Central Michigan.
Getsy finished with 375 yards passing but also threw three interceptions that the Chippewas turned into two touchdowns.
