Akron Falls 7-0 To Kent State in Holiday Match Up

AKRON, Ohio - - For the second-straight game, Kent State pitcher Brittney Robinson handcuffed the Zips, allowing just one hit as Akron fell 7-0 to the Golden Flashes in an Easter outing at Lee Jackson Field on Sunday.
With the loss, Akron drops to 19-17 overall and 8-4 in Mid-American Conference play. With a 10-0 win at Miami on Sunday, Bowling Green takes over sole possession of first place in the MAC East at 9-3.
Robinson was dominating in the circle today, retiring the final 21 Akron batters in order after giving up a single to Carrese Moody (Galloway, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) in the second at-bat of the game. The Zips had just two base runners in the game as lead-off hitter Sara Zilles (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) reached on an error in the bottom of the first, followed by Moody's single.
Kent State (17-19, 7-4) received all the offense it needed off the bat of Robinson in the fourth inning when she homered to left center for a 1-0 KSU lead. The Golden Flashes, who tallied 12 hits in the game, added another score in the sixth inning when back-to-back errors by Akron put runners in scoring position for Ashley Fairhurst who singled to center field, scoring Robinson from second base.
The Golden Flashes put the game out of reach with a five-run
seventh inning, taking advantage of five hits and an Akron error.
Pitcher Megan MacKenzie (Delta, British Columbia/North Delta) went
6 2/3 innings for Akron, allowing seven runs on 11 hits while
Striking out three and walking two. The loss drops her to 11-12 on
the season. Julie Boyes (Uniontown, Ohio/Lake) came on to get the
final out in the top of the seventh inning.

Akron takes a break from MAC action as it plays host to Penn State this Wednesday at Lee Jackson Field. The doubleheader against the Nittany Lions was originally scheduled for April 4 but was postponed due to weather. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
