Akron Postgame Notes
Team Notes:
• The Zips are 21-11 in their last 32 MAC contests and have
won 13 of their last 16 home conference matches.
• Akron pilled up 470 yards of total offense against the
Falcons to set a season high. The Zips' previous high of 436 yards
was set at Central Michigan on Sept. 16.
• UA's 222 rushing yards as a team was also a season high,
surpassing its previous mark of 127 set against Miami (Oct. 21),
and was the most since Akron rushed for 228 yards against Ohio on
Nov. 15, 2005. The Zips are 10-1 since the start of the 2005 season
when rushing for more than 100 yards in a game.
• Akron, which entered the game with the 41st-highest,
fourth-down efficiency (57.9 percent) in the nation, converted a
key 4th-and-inches situation with 7:38 remaining in the game from
the BGSU 12-yard line when QB
Luke Getsy sneaked for a
two-yard gain. Two plays later, RB
Andre Walker rushed in what
would turn out to be the game-winning score from nine yards out to
cap off a 13-play, 59-yard drive that ate up 6:58 of the clock and
gave the Zips a 35-21 lead.
• A 26-yard touchdown strike from QB
Luke Getsy to WR
David Harvey capped off a
10-play, 72-yard opening-drive score for Akron. It was the third
time this season that the Zips have scored on their opening drive.
UA had also scored on its first offensive series against the
University of North Texas (Sept. 23) and the University of
Cincinnati (Oct. 7).
• Akron's first-quarter touchdown also marked the third time
it had scored in the first quarter this). Conversely, the Zips held
Bowling Green scoreless in the opening quarter, representing the
fifth time it had shut out its opponent in the opening 15 minutes
this year.
Player Notes:
• Sophomore RB
Dennis Kennedy recorded his
third straight 100-yard rushing game with 178 yards on 24 carriers
against the Falcons. Kennedy's predecessor, Brett Biggs, was the
last Zips player to accomplish this feat (Oct. 9-23, 2004). The
school record for most consecutive games with 100 or more yards is
six, set by Mike Clark during the 1985 season and matched by Clark
in the subsequent year. Kennedy ran for 119 yards on 24 attempts at
Toledo (Oct. 28) and 129 yards on 31 carries against Miami (Oct.
21) in the last two weeks. Kennedy also eclipsed the century mark
at N.C. State with 117 yards on 30 rushes on Sept. 9.
• With two touchdown rushes, Kennedy recorded his third
multiple-TD game of the season and found the endzone at least once
for the third consecutive week. With two touchdowns against Miami
(Oct. 21) and one at Toledo (Oct. 28), Kennedy has five touchdowns
in his last three contests. He recorded a season-best three
touchdowns at N.C. State (Sept. 9).
• With touchdown receptions in the first and second quarter,
freshman WR
David Harvey recorded his
second multiple-TD game of the season. Harvey, who also found the
endzone twice against Central Michigan (Sept. 16), leads the Zips
with eight touchdown receptions on the year. It is the most
receiving touchdowns by a freshman in school history and ties him
for fourth-most in a single season overall (Domenik Hixon, 2005;
Lavel Bailey, 2000).
• Junior WR
Jabari Arthur's 57-yard
reception in the first quarter was the longest of his career. It
was also the longest passing play for Akron since QB
Luke Getsy hooked up with
WR
David Harvey on a 70-yard
strike earlier this season at Cincinnati (Oct. 7). For the game,
Arthur recorded four key receptions, totaling 101 yards. Including
his 57-yard catch, all four receptions converted first downs for
the Zips. He is currently tied for 13th on the school's all-time
reception list with 87 career grabs.
• Senior PK Jon McClain was unavailable for today's game.
McClain, who is also a member of the Zips' soccer team, will play
for the MAC Championship with the rest of his soccer teammates
against Northern Illinois tomorrow. Junior kicker
Matt Domonkos, the starter
at the beginning of the year, handled place-kicking duties in
McClain's absence and was a perfect 5-for-5 in extra point
attempts.
