Football Downs Miami, 24-13 in MAC Home Opener

Dennis Kennedy ran for two
touchdowns to give Akron the lead for good and
Luke Getsy threw a
touchdown pass in the Zips' 24-13 victory over Miami (Ohio) on
Saturday at the Rubber Bowl. It was the conference home opener for
the Zips.
Kennedy's 7-yard run with 33 seconds left in the third quarter gave Akron (3-4, 1-2 Mid-American Conference) an 18-13 lead. He then scored on a 4-yard run with 10:41 left in the game.
Getsy threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to
David Harvey in the second
quarter, his sixth of the season. Harvey had four catches for a
team-high 96 yards receiving.
Kennedy ran for a career-high 129 yards on 31 carries. Getsy was 14-of-24 passing for 197 yards.
Mike Kokal was 21-of-46 passing for 263 yards and threw a 4-yard
touchdown to Ryne Robinson in the first quarter to give the
RedHawks (1-7, 1-3) a 7-3 lead. Kokal was sacked by the Zips six
times, including twice by
Kiki Gonzalez.
Robinson caught nine passes for 135 yards.
Akron twice fumbled deep in its territory, but the RedHawks managed only field goals of 24 and 34 yards by Trevor Cook.
After the 34-yard field goal gave Miami a 13-12 lead, Akron scored on a 53-yard, seven-play drive capped by Kennedy's first touchdown.
Akron then forced Miami to punt and Kennedy finished an eight-play, 54-yard drive with his second touchdown.
The win snapped a five-game losing streak to the RedHawks.
