Crawford is in his fourth season with the Akron men's soccer program in 2020 and second as Director of Men's Soccer Operations, after previously serving as a volunteer coach for two years, where he assisted primarily with operations, goalkeeper training, scouting, and camps.
University of Akron head men's soccer coach Jared Embick promoted Drew Crawford to Director of Men's Soccer Operations on his staff on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
Â
"I want to thank Jared for giving me an opportunity to step up into a bigger role with the program," Crawford said. "I also want to thank Ger (Coppinger) and Mike (Nanchoff) as well as TJ (Kolba) and Leo (Chappel) from the previous staff for all of their encouragement and insight during my time here. Getting this position is the culmination of coaching 10 years in the sport for me. There's no place in college soccer I'd rather be than Akron and I look forward to the challenge of helping the program reach even greater heights. We have a truly special group of guys that I'm lucky to work with every day, and I am going to do everything in my power to make sure we don't fall one game short this year."
Â
In his new role, he focuses on team operations and Akron's highly-rated soccer camps.
Â
During his time in Akron, the Zips have secured back-to-back Mid-American Conference Tournament Championships and a pair of College Cup berths.
Â
Previously, Crawford spent time as a volunteer coach with the women's program at Malone University and the men's programs of Walsh University and the College of Wooster. He has over 10 years of experience dating back to his first coaching position in 2008, including a five-year stint at alma mater GlenOak High School.
Â
A native of North Canton, Ohio, Crawford earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Akron in December 2012, and is close to completing his master's degree in coaching from Akron as well. He holds a Goalkeeper III diploma from United Soccer Coaches.
