Jovon Shaw joins the University of Akron Athletics Department as Head Men's Basketball Strength and Conditioning Coach in June of 2022. Shaw oversees all aspects of athletic performance for Zips Men's Basketball.
Prior to arriving at Akron, Shaw worked as Head Men’s Basketball Strength and Conditioning Coach at Southern Illinois University- Carbondale and Middle Tennessee State University.
Shaw served as Sports Performance Coach at Iowa State University, Saint Louis University, and the University of Kansas where he assisted with training the 2018 Big 12 regular season champion and Final 4 Jayhawk Men’s Basketball team, as well as various other KU intercollegiate sports teams.Â
Shaw completed internships at the University of Kansas, The University of Illinois and Eastern Illinois University.
A native of Danville, Illinois, Shaw earned both his Master's and Bachelor's of Science in Kinesiology-Exercise Science from Eastern Illinois University. Shaw is a former member of the Central College (Pella, IA) and Eastern Illinois University Tack & Field Teams.
Shaw is a certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and holds his Adult First Aid/CPR/AED Certification through the American Red Cross.
