Ben Murphy is in his 10th year serving as Akron football’s director of operations.
In this role with the Zips, he conducts the day-to-day operations of the football office, including organizing team travel, developing the program’s budget, and scheduling all team events.
Murphy served as the director of football operations at North Alabama from 2009-11, after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Florida State from 2007-09.
While at Florida State, he was heavily involved in the program’s recruiting effort and helped achieve top-10 recruiting classes in 2008 and 2009. He also worked as an intern in the Florida State sports information department from 2005-07.
A native of Tampa, Fla., Murphy graduated from Florida State with a bachelor’s degree in sport management in 2007, and added a master’s degree in sport administration from FSU in 2009.
Murphy, 37, married former Akron golfer Amanda Butler in July 2015. A four-time National Golf Coaches Association Academic All-American, Butler earned her bachelor’s degree in sports management from UA in 2012 and her master’s degree in 2014. The couple are the parents of son, Carter, and daughter, Dawson.
