DAYTON, Ohio - Easton Amundson hit a three-run home run and Jeremiah Newman three scoreless innings out of the pen, but the Akron baseball team fell to the Dayton Flyers 11-4 on Tuesday.

Amundson went 1-for-4 with his three-run home run. Mitchel Szymczak went 2-for-3.

John Allen (1-4) got the ball to start for Akron (20-25) and took the loss. Newman was a bright spot for the Zips, coming out of the bullpen and throwing three shutout innings, allowing two hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 7-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the third inning. Blake Bowen came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.

The Flyers expanded their lead to 8-1 before the Zips offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the seventh. Akron scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of Easton Amundson, scoring Kelton Phillips and Brody Chrisman, which tightened the Flyers lead to 8-4. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Dayton added three runs to their tally on the way to an 11-4 final.
